Friends of the Sun began in 1975 as a small renewable energy company in Brattleboro, Vermont. We mostly sold books and how-to guides on the new topic of solar energy, hence our name!
Around the mid-1980s, Stratton was becoming a popular ski destination so it was decided to set up a secondary location to service Stratton and Bromley mountains. And as we grew, we started selecting new products to sell. The overall theme was for energy efficiency. Wood burning stoves and insulating window shades seemed like no-brainers in that regard.
Over the years, our selection of hearth products grew to include gas- and pellet-burning stoves and fireplaces. At the same time, we began to add the new and innovative window treatments that Hunter Douglas was developing. We also have a showroom display to show all their energy-efficient window treatments and other styles as well.
Along the way we also picked up retractable awnings to allow people the use of their outdoor spaces from the summertime heat.
And though over the years ownership has changed at the original Brattleboro location and also the Manchester location (and are no longer affiliated) we still pride ourselves on our many offerings and range of products that will help someone warm a space, enjoy a space, or just want to spruce a space up.
